  • Hike across the Land of Israel, from sea to sea

  • Meet fellow students from other programs who love Israel & the outdoors
  • Small groups of 9-12 participants with 2-3 professional guides
  • Follows SPNI's strict safety and security protocols
  • Kosher
  • Separate male & female groups
  • Gear up to spend this summer backpacking across the Land of Israel- from one end to the other, sea to sea- one blue to the next- on Derech Hateva's YAM L'YAM '07! Walk the land with fellow students learning in Israel, carrying your home-for-the-week on your back. Catch many-a-glimpse of the soft green and colorful wildflowers of Israel's springtime, learn outdoor skills- and have a blast!

Between sea and sea- the Mediterranean and the Kinneret- are exhilarating streams and mountains for your traversing, waiting to be your inspiration on this five-day backpacking journey of growth and challenge, physical and spiritual discovery. It's your chance to get to know the land with your feet as you walk across the country.

You will hike alongside the rushing waters of Nachal Kh'ziv & Amud, summit Mount Meron, Israel's highest peak, sleep every night outside under the stars (or in your tent), and see, taste, hear and feel all that is within your reach (and beyond it!).

On YAM L'YAM, you will discover how to live in nature, acquiring skills such as basic navigation and map-reading, outdoor-cooking, tent and camp set-up and more. You'll become skilled at "Leave no Trace" camping- how to live in the outdoors and leave a minimum of impact.

With Derech Hateva's experience teaching leadership and teamwork, you will learn how to lead, how to listen, and how to work in a team. As your group of 9-12 participants (separate male/female groups) gains leadership skills and experience working together, you can expect the guides to give you more responsibility for leading yourself and your peers.

We will pray daily in the outdoors, being enchanted by the beauty of our surroundings. We will explore the deep emphasis that Torah places on connecting with nature- especially that of Eretz Yisrael. Through both textual and experiential learning, we will live all that we learn, and connect to the Land and People of Israel, seeing the texts that we learn come alive.

So rise up, stretch, give a yell and liberate yourself this coming spring season. Enter Pesach feeling free and full of excitement to leave Mitzrayim- constraints, enslavements and limitations- fully behind. Come join us on YAM L'YAM '07, and live the Land of Israel to its max! And don't forget to bring a willingness to play hard and have fun!
